Case of a COVID-19 female presented with pericardial effusion
A case report published in JACC described a female who presented into a hospital with progressive shortness of breath. X-ray scan was inconclusive and therefore a heart ultrasound examination was performed. It showed a collection of blood within the pericardial cavity (called pericardial hemorrhagic effusion). The pathology later progressed into Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (also known as “broken heart disease”).

Cardiac involvement in COVID-19 and how can AI help?
A short video from ESC stating the prevalance of COVID-19 patients presenting with symptoms of cardiac involvement. Turns out that cardiac involvment can be met in up to 30% of patients. Unfortuntately, half of them will die… The method of choice here is 2D transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). Recognition of dysfunction of Left Ventricle (LV) during TTE can significantly improve differential diagnosis and patient management.
